Notification to the Immigration Services Bureau

出入国在留管理局への届出

In case a medium to long term resident with a status of residence of "Student" who leaves an accepting organization or move into another organization, the resident is required to report to the Immigration office by him/herself within 14 days after the change takes place.
Failure to comply could result in penalties. Please check the website of the Immigration Services Agency for necessary forms.

Mandatory procedure by new students

Those who newly arrived in Japan from overseas are not necessary for this procedure.

Mandatory procedure by graduates or students who quit JAIST

When you go back to your home country immediately after graduation or withdrawal, all you have to do is to return your residence card to an officer at the passport control in departure airport.
If you want it as a memory, the officer will punch a hole in your residence card and give it back to you.
